Drawing Inspiration. My work and theirs

21/02/16

My work was inspired by Carolina Melis' detail in some of her work. I did some drawing with the sewing machine and some sewing by hand, in some of her work she does sewing. In one of her pieces she had a detailed bird and it reminded me of my drawings with the sewing machine when looking at this piece of hers, I'm not entirely sure what reminded of my work when looking at this piece of hers, but looking at some of the detail on this bird of hers it reminded me of my drawing with the sewing machine, i think it might have been the thread i used because i sewed it all over the birds i was doing and the sewing lines came out really dark and thick and this is what her drawing of this bird reminds me of in my own work. I really like how the sewing lines came out in my drawings with the sewing machine, I like how when looking at this bird of Carolina Melis' reminds me of my own work.

My work was inspired by Migy's bright use of colour. I did some collages which i stuck onto an A1 sized page, some of them are really bright. When looking at Migy's work her's is really bright and some of the colours i used for my collages were really bright too and i used for most of them human eyes as their eyes (the birds eyes), Migy uses bright colours and she also made some of her work cartoonish, dressing her birds up as humans in human clothes. I used human eyes for the birds eyes and bright colours for some of my collages.

My work wasn't too inspired by Peter sis' work. In one of his pieces he used a large range of different birds and gathered them all together onto one giant bird, i used a large range of different birds well doing my experiments. I can only say that using a large range of different birds was the inspiration i got from him.

My work was inspired by Saul Steinberg's choice of using different types of paper. I did some mono printing for some of my experiments and when doing these prints i decided to use different tpes of paper to see what effects i could get. I used normal plain paper, tracing paper, squared/ graph paper etc. from doing this i could see what effects came out when using the papers. I found that this was different and good to see what outcomes you can get when trying something different in your work.

Printmaking Inspiration. My work and theirs

21/02/16

Between my work and Chris Andrews' I think that i was inspired with how simple he made his prints. I liked how my prints came out because I couldn't quit get them in the right position they all came out all over the place but they all looked fairly simple and i think that my prints have a similar simple look like Chris Andrews' prints.
I also liked the colours that Chris Andrews used for his prints and i used a good colour combination on my prints. I liked the colours i chose because they worked so well together.

Between my work and Kate Gibb's I think that i wasn't that inspired by her work. But looking back at my work and at one of her pieces of a bird which has been broken into like glass pieces, i think that i could say it may i have been inspired by this piece because my prints aren't all in the right position where there supposed to be, it's like they are broken into pieces around the bird.
I like the outcomes i got as they do look like they have been slightly inspired by some of Kate Gibb's work.

Between my work and Nadia Taylor's I think that I may i been inspired by the shapes of her bird prints. My bird prints have a lot of sharp points at the different colour changes and they are slightly rounded in places, i found that so are Nadia Taylor's which i didn't notice before and i may or may not have been inspired by this when creating my templates but i have only just noticed this and i really liked her birds and i like how this small effect has came out on my bird prints.

Evaluation. Communication Skills

21/02/16

I really enjoyed creating a blog and posting the progress i made through each lesson onto it. I liked posting the evaluations onto it as well, because i found my evaluations were easier to look at and they were all in one place which made it easier too.
I liked posting images of the progress i made in lessons onto my blog because i was able to look back at where i started to how i got to the finishing look, and posting images and taking the photos made it easier for me to remember what happened in each lesson and what we did.

I really liked creating a blog for my art work this term. And i think it could be helpful in the future to do something like this again with my work. I'd like to do this for my FMP because creating the blog was fun and posting everything i did from the beginning to now was helpful and it helped me complete my evaluations, as well as taking photos of my work.
I really liked how you can add to much onto a blog, with the photos i added and the videos and my evaluations, artist research etc. I've never done a blog before so this was really new to me, i didn't like the idea at first but then i really liked it as i got further into it.

Final evaluation. Drawing class

19/02/16

In this class we did different experiments with birds, using different materials to see how each one comes out differently.
Techniques i used for experiments were:
- Transfer with sellotape
- Inkblots
- Chalk on stick
- Collage
- Drawing with sewing machine
- Painting
- Two pens together
- Outline
- Emulsion drawing
- Ink drawing
- Opposite hand
- Continuous line
- Biro
- Stitch by hand
- Bird names
- Paper cutting
- Transfer with acetone
- Trace with pencil
- Tracing opposite hand
- Blind
- Mono printing
- Image transfer with acetate
- Tracing with fine liner
I enjoyed doing lots of these experiments because you got see use techniques that you haven't used before and you get to use these techniques more than once and you can see different outcomes you get. This it what i really like about doing experiments you can use different techniques and see what outcomes you can get, i also like using different techniques because you could find something that you didn't know you were good at and you could enjoy a particular technique which you hadn't used before.

I got good fedback with lots of the different experiments that i did. I especially got good feedback with using a collage technique and creating an A1 page of different birds using this technique.

Two things that went well. Firstly doing a page of collages seeing how each one turned out was good. Secondly drawing with the sewing machine, i enjoyed this because i like sewing and it wasn't a technique i had used before.

Final evaluation. Media

19/02/16

In this term we created a claymation. I enjoyed this because it was like an adaption to the stop motion we had done before but we used clay and this time we got to create our own characters. I liked learning what claymation is and drawing out my ideas for the clay model i was going to create. Creating the model bird was really fun to do and it was good to learn how you can make a clay model, it took longer than thought but it was really nice to see how it changed as you got further into making it and then seeing what it looked like once finished.
Creating the background was good and then putting the background and the clay model together was good too seeing what they looked like together. And then making the claymation was fun because you got to move around the model you had created and make a stop motion animation at the end. And once you had created the stop motion animation/claymation and made it into an MP4 you got to edit it in photoshop and make it so that it could have been doing anything with edits. I liked seeing the final outcome because you get to see everything come together.

I got good feedback, with my clay model when creating it and having help to make it better. I got good feedback when creating the claymation in photoshop too.

Two things that went well. Firstly creating my clay model bird. Secondly creating the claymation in photoshop.

Final evaluation. 3D

19/02/16

In this term we did shadow puppets. It was something i hadn't done before and something i enjoyed it was really different to my other lessons because at the end of the term we did a short film as a group with our shadow puppets, which was really good. Creating the shadow puppets was good because it was a little more complicated than i thought it would be, which i enjoyed because it got to learn something new and be a little more creative and it was also fun in this way because you had your shadow puppets and then you had to figure out which parts you want to move and then you had to piece them together and make them.
Making the short film at the end was fun because we worked as a group to do this and we had music on in the background well it was filming. This made the short film really good and fun to do, especially seeing the final short films at the end.

I got good feedback with my drawings at the beginning in our first lesson, choosing the different birds and then using black ink to draw them with and painting them black the detail i got in. Creating our shadow puppets and choosing the birds we had drawn with the black ink, which ones we were going to use. Adding the sticks to them and cutting the different parts out to make them move.

Two things that went well. Firstly creating our shadow puppets, cutting them out and attaching all the different parts together. Secondly creating the short films as a group.

Evaluation lesson 6. Media

10/02/16

I created a different background on A1 using paints for a more solid effect. I put it onto a table and made it stick by using masking tape on the back of the A1 sheet so that it would stick to the wall.
I put my bird into position and started taking photographs using the camera. Once i had finished taking photographs i uploaded them to the mac and dragged them into photoshop where i created my claymation once i had finished i saved it as an MP4 and then closed photoshop and re-opened it. I dragged the MP4 into photoshop and was able to do some editing to my claymation, i made the eyes blink. I saved this as an MP4 once i had completed it.

I recieved some help my the teacher and was told that the eyes when edited so that they were blinking were a little fast blinking.

Two things that went well. Firstly taking photographs of my bird for the claymation. Secondly creating them into an MP4 in a stopmotion animation style using photoshop.

I could make the eyes blink slower and maybe make my bird do something else next time.
