We continued and started to do some screen- printing.
We recapped on our last lesson before we went on to do anything else. We then went on to cut out our stencils with cutting boards and cutting knifes.
Once we completed this we got a printing screen. We then placed our first stencil on the outer side of the screen, and we marked the corners with a marker pen.We then went around the stencil putting masking tape around the area to cover it, so that when we go to do some prints it will only come through the stencil shape and nowhere else, we also put masking tape on the insides of the printing screen.
We then covered the table in newspaper. Once we did this we went and mixed our chosen colours together with a medium paint to help the drying process slow down. The ratio for this was;
Top - Medium
Medium
Bottom - Colour
We mixed our chosen colour together with the medium paint.
We got a sheet of A1 paper and marked where we put our screen down and where the smaller paper will be placed. We did this so that when we do our prints we won't lose our place and they will all come out in the same position as the other prints. We got the fork and dripped the paint down onto the screen at the top of the screen and we used the squeegee to lightly press down and slide it down so that the paint started to cover the screen we did this at an angle before doing our first print.
We then put our screens on the marks on the A1 sheet in the right position, we tilted it up at a slight angle. We then used the squeegee to slide it down the screen gently, once reaching the bottom we dabbed it down so that any excess paint dripped off, and we went back to the top and repeated this step. We did these steps again but this we had the screen down on top of the paper completely, once we completed these steps for each print we, before doing another print we went and tilted the screen up a little and followed the the same steps.
Once completing each print we moved our screens off of the printing paper and onto three paint pots which we positioned into a triangle so that it wouldn't cause us to put the screen down and get paint everywhere while we move our prints to the drying wrack and prepare for another print.
I received good feedback, saying that my screen prints were good and the choice of colour was good. The teacher suggested that i use the stencil with the masking tape around it in my assessment, and i left it on the drying wrack to dry and will be using it in my assessment.
Two things that went well. Firstly preparing my screen and attaching my stencil onto the screen with masking tape went well. And secondly the print making itself went well.
